A registered nurse with 36 years of experience, my early career was spent working in Glasgow in general intensive care before heading to Canada to work in a urology unit. On returning to Scotland my career continued to be centred in acute care including cardiac intensive care, cardiothoracic and cardiology. Following a return from working in Dublin I was a charge nurse then deputy manager of a 51 bedded nursing home. During this time I began to develop my knowledge of dementia and person centred care which was greatly enhanced by becoming a dementia care mapper. I moved from my role as a deputy manager into the training role for the care home company which included 14 homes across Scotland caring for older people and people with learning disabilities.油
I have worked across public and private sectors latterly working within a local authority as the Learning and Development Practitioner for adult services supporting social care staff to develop their existing skills to manage the increasingly complex care situations they face in practice. My main role was to support mandatory training programmes including medication administration/policy, moving and handling and palliative care. Latterly I was involved in supporting senior care staff to learn how to undertake vital signs and in team development activities.油油油
I have continued to be an enthusiastic learner and promote life long learning at any given opportunity! The MSc in Professional and Higher Education provided experience of a higher education learning environment, offered the opportunity to be involved in research and inspired me to join the nurse education team at 91心頭.油
